Supreme Sikh Council UK acts on key areas affecting the UK Sikh community.
Community Safety
- Collaborations – liaise with relevant agencies and develop networks.
- Development – create strategies and champion their implementation.
- Metropolitan Police – liaise on Sikh matters at regular round table discussions.
- Monitoring – record all types of Sikh attacks due to race, religion and beliefs.
- NHS – improve the understanding of Sikhi (practise of Sikhism) and faith issues.
Education
- Panjabi language – promotion of teaching, learning and speaking.
- UK Sikh schools – provision of support and assistance, and future development.
Gurdwara Governance
- Advice – policies and procedures.
Health and Food
- Allergens (food safety) – campaigning for all Gurdwaras to display information.
- Labelling (Halal meat/derivatives) – lobby for food regulations and consumer rights.
Panthic (Believer) Matters
- Dispute resolution – creating a framework and pilots.
- Kakkars (Sikh symbols) – seeking acceptance around work, education and leisure.
- Parcharaks (preachers) – creating a framework to avoid future issues and tensions.
- Sikh campaigners – help with border force difficulties due to bad information.
Political Awareness
- Justice – ongoing issues of political prisoners and justice in India
Strategy, Policy, Legal
- Development – strategies and policies to provide for Sikh community needs.
- Legal matters – initiate and co-ordinate matters.
- Monitor trends (demographic, social, economic) – for policy-making / good practice.
- Sikh organisations – maintaining a database, so we can best serve our community.
World: Europe / International
- Development – help evolve a structure for an European Council of Sikhs.
- Heritage – preserve the built heritage of Sikhs internationally.
- National Sikh Councils (Europe) – link with and help develop to represent Sikhs.
- Sikh events – help organise Europe-wide political, cultural, and religious events.
- Sikh issues – support Sikhs on matters within their specific countries.
- UK Sikhs – pursue opportunities to improve the understanding of UK Sikhs.
World: Indian Subcontinent
- Alliances – develop strategic organisational links for the benefit of the UK Sikhs.
- Isolation (minority Sikh communities) – provide support, advocacy and aid.
- Opportunities – pursuing and creating these for the benefit of the Sikh Community.
- Positive relationships – promote these with people of other nations.
- Sikh way of life – promote the Ek Granth and Ek Panth to help achieve unity.
